Why Traffic Signs Matter
Traffic signs inform, warn, regulate and guide. They tell road users what to expect, what is required and what is prohibited. Consistent signage reduces confusion between strangers sharing the same road and makes movement predictable — which is the single biggest factor in avoiding crashes.

Categories of Signs

Shapes and Colours
Colour and shape carry meaning even before you read the text. Red — restriction or prohibition (Stop, No Entry). Yellow / triangular — warning of a hazard ahead. Blue — mandatory instruction or information. Green — direction guidance, typically on highways and expressways. White — regulatory background (speed limits, one-way). Orange — temporary control at work zones. Circular = order, triangular = warning, rectangular = information.
Read the shape first
At night or in rain the text on a sign may be hard to read, but the shape and colour are usually still visible. Train yourself to react to the shape and colour first, then confirm with the text.
