Drink Driving — The Facts
Your reflexes are your only airbag.
Synopsis
Driving under the influence or while using a phone multiplies crash risk many times over. India's legal BAC limit is 0.03% — roughly one small drink — and using a phone while driving carries a fine up to ₹5,000.
Alcohol impairs everything
Even below the legal limit, alcohol slows reaction time, narrows vision, and impairs judgement. At 0.05% BAC, crash risk doubles; at 0.08%, it is 7x higher. Zero alcohol is the only safe number for driving.
Distraction is a choice
Reading a message at 60 km/h means driving blind for 100 metres. Even hands-free calls slow reaction time. Put the phone in Do Not Disturb / Driving mode before starting the vehicle.
Fatigue counts too
Being awake for 18 hours affects driving like a BAC of 0.05%. Never start a long drive after a full working day without rest. Take a 15-minute break every 2 hours on long routes.
Key takeaways

- Phone goes in Driving / Do Not Disturb mode before ignition
- Never text, scroll, or watch video while driving
